I need to pick up a helmet to do some auto-x-ing, don’t plan to do any HPDE’s and am here in hot and humid Texas so I plan to get an open face model. Any pros/cons for buying one from Zamp, Racequip or one of the others vs spending more $ on a Simpson or Bell?

Snell 2015 rated will be good for another 5 years.
Also, it’s a helmet. It protects your head. You get what you pay for.

Honestly, I’m very rarely one to say this about helmets, but get the one that you think is comfortable and that has an appealing look to you. Helmets in autocross are a wise insurance move by the SCCA (and others), but entirely unnecessary. You’d be better served wearing a helmet for day-to-day driving. That said, my comment only applies if you will be using the helmet exclusively for AutoX. If you’re getting on a motorcycle, doing an HPDE, karting, or even going 4-wheeling, I’d suggest getting something nice.
*Edit - I should not that, assuming this is SCCA, the minimum requirements are pretty high, which contributes to why I’m comfortable suggesting the “minimum”.

Don’t buy one online. Every brand fits differently and you really need to try them on.
The extra cost goes into comfort, not safety. I recently bought a helmet for a track day. I went cheap since I will only wear it a few times a year. When I get a motorcycle again, I'll spring for the much more expensive Arai. The better materials make it much more comfortable.

Every group I’ve seen gives ratings 10 years of use, so a 2015 will be good to 2025. Therefore, a 2010 will still be fine, and also much cheaper since the 2015s are just now rolling out and starting to drop the prices.

I bought a RaceQuip SportMod SA2010 (full face) since I planned to do AutoX and Track Days. If I had it to do over again I would have bought an open face helmet for sure. It gets pretty hot pretty fast sitting in the queue at an AutoX event in a full face helmet in Tampa (Brooksville airport specifically).
That would be my advice, like most others. If only doing AutoX buy the most comfortable full face helmet. If doing track days or other higher speed events then consider a full face, but preferably at least one with a flip up front guard.
